We do use standard software to collect information for the strict purpose of tracking activity on our site (we use Google Analytics, see below for details). This allows us to better understand how many people use our site and which pages and features are most popular.

The only information we normally collect and store beyond registration data is:

  • The date and time the pages were accessed
  • The page or pages you requested

There are instances where you may elect to provide us with personal information. If you fill out one of our feedback or request forms or send us an email, you are transmitting the information that appears to you in the form or the message. You never transmit personally identifying information that you do not enter yourself. And this is always your option; this information cannot be collected unless you specifically elect to send it to us. Privacy in a networked world

Social Share Buttons have become a major source of traffic and important tools for recommendation marketing. We do like to share.

Problem is that a data transfer to the providers of these platform is initiated during page load. That means data is transmitted without user interaction. These data include but are probably not limited to:

  • The URL of the actual page
  • A unique identifier linked to the logged-in user

This enables Facebook and others to build complete internet profiles of users (thats you!).

We value the privacy of our users and adopted a simple solution developed by heise.de that requires active user interaction before a data transfer is initiated. The page is loaded without data transaction by default. Only by clicking and thus activating a button the user permits the data transfer but only for this page and the chosen provider. This should prevent the compilation of personal profiles.

Since we do not want to enforce our appreciation of privacy onto you, you can disable the default for either a certain provider or all. To do so click on the gear wheel icon.
